Sourcing from China: basics and essentials

China will remain one of the world’s most important supply hubs for the foreseeable future, whatever the political climate may suggest.

Whether you’re just starting to explore sourcing from China or already have established suppliers, there are many areas where I can support you. This ranges from developing a complete sourcing and logistics strategy to refining and optimising the systems you already have in place.

I can help you:

  • Identify and verify reliable suppliers

  • Conduct factory audits and on-site assessments

  • Set up or streamline quality-control processes

  • Improve your communication with existing partners for smoother cooperation and better results

  • Bridge cultural gaps and avoid costly misunderstandings

  • Strengthen your long-term supplier relationships

Consultations are available from short, focused 30-minute sessions to full fractional support.

Intercultural communication

Working effectively with Chinese partners can be challenging. This is not because of a lack of goodwill, but simply because most of us have limited insight into how other cultures think, prioritise, and make decisions. There are differing value systems, contrasting communication styles, and unspoken assumptions that are shaped by our cultural backgrounds.

My intercultural communication workshops are designed to help you understand the Chinese worldview in a structured, accessible way. We will explore core cultural concepts that shape how business is done in China, including:

  • guanxi (trusted relationships)
  • mianzi (face and social standing)
  • communication norms,
  • decision-making patterns,
  • and food culture (which plays an extremely important role in professional contexts).

You’ll learn how to interpret signals that might otherwise be missed, respond in culturally appropriate ways, and build smoother, more productive relationships with your Chinese partners.

The goal is not to “become Chinese,” but to understand the cultural logic behind your partners’ actions and know how to adapt your own approach .

Traveling to China

Planning a trip to China but not quite sure how everything works?

I offer a short two-session workshop covering all the essentials for a smooth and meaningful trip:

  • payments
  • transport
  • phone setup
  • everyday etiquette
  • food culture
  • and a few key characters that it is helpful to recognise.

You’ll learn the practicalities that make travelling in China smooth and enjoyable, plus the cultural know-how that helps you feel confident and comfortable.

If you’d like support with your itinerary, I can also help you plan visits to tea fields, calligraphy artists, and potters, or help to organise other cultural experiences. Everything can be tailored to your interests and travel style.

Slow living guide following the traditional Chinese Calendar.

This workshop invites you to slow down and reconnect with the natural rhythm of time, inspired by traditional Chinese wisdom.

We begin with a taste of exquisite Chinese tea, prepared in the spirit of mindfulness and balance.

This leads into a fascinating exploration of the 24 Chinese solar seasons, including:

  • how people in ancient China observed subtle changes in nature,
  • how they measured time and found harmony with the cycles of the earth.

The experience continues with a calligraphy session, where you’ll learn to write the name of the current season and create your own hand-brushed scroll, signed and stamped.

A calm and creative immersion into Chinese culture, this workshop blends reflection, artistry, and the beauty of living slowly with the seasons.
